Our vision of Vincent OS Server

By v38armageddon - 2026-08-27

Hello everyone!

Today I'm gonna share our global vision about the upcoming Edition of Vincent OS Server.

First of all, the core functionnality of Vincent OS will still be present:

Why still including Wine?

We want to make Vincent OS the ultimate operating system, capable of running the widest variety of programs, regardless of their origin.

The big changes

Vincent OS Server will be focused essentialy on the security, the linux-zen kernel will be replaced by linux-hardened. The ufw firewall will be present, as well as AppArmor.

In the begining, we want to put SELinux but due to the lack of implementation with ArchLinux and to ensure to not rewrite every packages. It was changed to AppArmor.

We also thinking to add two possibility to install Vincent OS Server, one is of course, the classic mode (just a simple TTY) and a Desktop mode. This Desktop mode allows administrator to manage a server with a graphical desktop enviromnent (with of course, the designed Vincent OS layout as you known). It could be useful for thoses who have a touchscreen in the rack and manage it for example but could use more server resources.

If you want to talk about it, don't hesitate to join the forum at forum.v38armageddon.net and share your opinion!

At last, a dedicated tool will be present to manage easily your server without typing a lot of commands. Stay tuned!

A new base

Vincent OS Server will be based on a new codename base named: cyclades.

It will be the reference to the future Editions of Vincent OS.

Why a Server Edition?

The introduction of Vincent OS Server is not just about making another linux distribution based on arch. First of all, it serves us to refresh our infrastructure to ensure uniformity across our systems and updating our security standard to address current security recommendations.

Once we are satisfied with the stability of the Server Edition, we will release it to the public to benefit from feedback and continue improving.
